WTF 2008?!

Nov 19, 2008 08:55

Ever heard of a series of unfortunate events?  I never truly belived it could happen - that was until it happened to me.  I can only remember doing a whole lot more crying this year than I have laughing.  A terrible truth.  But as I reflect on the year - I have hope for the future.

January 2nd - Mammie passed
January 3rd - Auntie Dot passed
January 12th - Momma Mac passed
March 17th - I broke my ankle
Easter - my aunt is a scathing bitch and ruins Easter (my grandmother's favorite holiday) - Hurricane Patsy continues to plague the family to this day.
May 19th - baby Katie Manning born (with a heart defect - HLHS)
July - I go on vacation alone
Summer - family friend passes
October - bookstore coworker's father passes
My 26th birthday - forgotten and crapped on
November 9th - baby Katie Manning passes
November 16th - coworker falls out a window sleepwalking and breaks his neck

I have never in my life had so much happen to and around me in such a short time period (in the grand scheme of things).  This certainly isn't a whoa-is-me.  I just cannot believe the culmination that is going to be the unpleasant memory of this 2008.  It's a surreal thing and I thought it couldn't get worse after losing the most important person in my family.  However, attending the funeral of a five month-old baby girl that didn't have a chance to live out her parents' hopes and dreams.

A father that just wanted to walk his daughter down the aisle for her special day, instead, carried her casket to her grave.  For more about Katie's life and fight, read here.  I guess my message  ultimately here is that if you seriously think you've got it bad, read that blog from beginning to end.  Then try, just try to explain to me that your life is unfair.  Go out and do something about it.  I have learned so much from a tiny child.  It's so easy to take life for granted.  Go.  Be. Do.  You are what you do.  You can only fail if you don't try.  You can only succeed if you fail and try, try, try again.
