Some of you I haven't talked to in a -really- long time. I do, however, know you all on some kinda of personal level. Now I'm asking for you help.
As some of you know (most probably don't) on June 6th, 2006 my 6 yr old nephew was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes(Juvenile Diabetes) This has changed his and our life drastically. So far there is no cure for this illness. Braiden has to have two insulin injections a day and is on two different types of insulin. (NPH and NR) He deals with all this like a little trooper though, but it effects him in school, sports etc.
On June 10, 2007 Braiden and I will be walking to find a cure. All I'm asking is for a TINY donation (even if it's like.. 5$) to support him and help the MANY others effected by this disease.
Over 200,000 Canadians are afflicted with juvenile (Type 1) diabetes - many of them children. Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure and lower limb amputation and a leading cause of adult blindness, nerve damage and heart disease. It is the underlying cause of 50% of all heart attacks, and 5% of those who suffer strokes have diabetes. Insulin is not a cure.
Canada has the third highest occurrence rate of Type 1 diabetes in children 14 years or younger in the world and the Type 1 diabetes occurrence rate is rising by 3 - 5% per year; the greatest rise occurring in 5 - 9 year olds.
