The Devil's Rejects

Oh, and someone while I was playing WoW today managed to spoil the rest of the ending of the Harry Potter book for me. So... yeah. Wonderful. I'm kinda pissed. But this isn't about my day sucking. This is about the movie. I'm gonna babble randomly here, so there'll be spoilers... not that I think knowing what happens would hurt the experience of seeing the flick.

I had read a review before seeing the movie that said the sense of humor was gone, that this movie was too unendingly dark... and I don't think they saw the same flick I did. Devil's Rejects possesses the same dark, twisted sense of humor that made House of 1,000 Corpses so much fun.

All of the main actors with the notable exception of Karen Black are back on this one, and everyone is awesome. Even the replacement for Black as Mama Firefly (can't recall the actress's name) is really good. She obviously watched Black's portrayal and took the flavor from it, though I wish they would've replicated the tooth decay. On that note, Tiny's make-up was altered as well, and he looked more like Freddy Krueger. Though it didn't distract me enough to be much of a black mark, I can't say I liked it much. Otis, too, looks like a different person as he is suddenly no longer an albino... though I'm sure Bill Moseley was thrilled not to have to endure the contacts :)

Sheri Moon is beauty and strange as ever. She gets to show a more serious side this time around, and it was great fun to watch. We also see the rejects operating as a family. The "road trip" scenes with Otis, Cutter (aka Captain Spaulding), and Baby are downright adorable despite how abusive they are to one another. This movie is all about getting a more inside view. There are scenes of violence and gore and some of the same sadistic, amusing torture of the last movie, but there are more opportunities to see what the family is like in their down time.

All that said... if you don't like sick, violent, fucked-up shit... don't see the movie. If you haven't seen House of 1,000 Corpses or if it was too much for you, don't see this. You won't like it. This movie is more hardcore than the last, and anyone without a strong stomach or who is easy to offend should avoid it.
