I...can't be...

After everything that you just told me, I can't be a hero. Heroes can see when something's wrong, or if a friends in danger, or that someone else is trying to control them. ...I didn't see any of it.

Not because of anything you did. [He has to make sure Terra understands that. He wised up, he rejected the bad.] You tried to save us, both of us. You were amazing, Terra. But Vanitas, he's pure darkness, and now I'm pure light. There's some girls like me, but they were born that way - me and Vanitas, we were made that way.

[Ven folds his arms over the table, leaning down to rest his head on them. He doesn't regret his actions, but this is still not one of his favorite memories.]

Master Xehanort was right - the χ-blade, or kye-blade, or whatever you want to call it, it could only be made when pure light and pure darkness fought, in that place. That's why Vanitas taunted me into leaving home after you, so he could get me there and we would fight. If it hadn't been you, it would've been for Aqua, or the Master, or Mickey or anyone... they just wanted me there, where the weapon would be made. And when we all confronted them, it came down to me and him, and he stole my body. But I wasn't about to let him hurt you or Aqua.

[He looks up at Terra again, looking entirely serious.]

I chose it, Terra. Letting that thing loose, with Vanitas or anyone else, it couldn't happen. I couldn't let the worlds suffer like that. So I fought him, to break it - and since it was made of our combined hearts, it broke us, too.

I had always thought that you had left to follow me. [ he stares ] He stole your body...? But, you defeated him, right? You don't have to worry about him anymore.

[ smiles, almost like a grin and reaches out to ruffle his hair a little roughly ] That was really brave, Ven. You did so much that I didn't even know about. I can't say that I did anything, I don't even remember. But you had to fight Vanitas, who was pure darkness, and you won even if you were broken. In fact, I think you're a hero.

For everything that you did, you're my hero, Ventus.

[Oh wow SO MUCH BLUSHING. There is no way Terra means that, it's just- he's Terra, he's the best of all of them.]

I'm not a hero, it's just he was about to hurt Aqua - I couldn't let him. I could never let him. And it almost killed me - my heart went into Sora's again, but he was about four then. And I just woke up a few months ago, now.

I think that still counts as a hero, Ven. You protected a damsel in distress and defeated a villain. Even if you did get hurt, you still won. [ and he pauses, looking wary ] ...Don't tell her that I said that first part.
