003 * Destiny Islands [Video] Jailbreak!

[Edward has made it to the island, at some point, seeing as he was expected in school. The uniform is a bit big on him, the shirt untucked lazily and only half buttoned over his black tank top. On top of his uniform shirt, he's wearing his black jacket, the usual small sliver watch chain at his hip, and his white gloves. He looks a little flushed ( Read more... )

[Tsk. That uniform would never fly in Juuban. But Ami has the sense to be glad Ed's been persuaded to give the school a chance. She startles as he throws the device, and it shows in her voice.]

Please don't be upset. Keeping a good daily routine is a mark of maturity that helps us grow into the adults we want to become.

I have a very disciplined routine. I get up early, I usually work out, or spar with Al, I work all day or travel or whatever, and then I study all night, sleep a couple of hours and start over.

Good. Then this will be easy for you to fall into a new routine without any trouble. [She has a lot of experience with motivating immature, bratty kids.]

I don't want a new routine. I don't want all these rules. I don't need 'em.

You can't decide that before giving it a chance. I'm sure it will be alright.

I've been to school before. I remember the rules. Sit up straight. [Ed paces, counting them on his fingers.]

Don't fidget. Don't fall asleep. Don't look out the window. Pay attention. Don't pick on Winry. Don't eat in class. Don't read a book in class. Stop drawing transmutation circles. Don't pick on your brother in class. No animals in class...it was endless!

[She laughs, almost sympathetically.]

I suppose it could seem that way. But those rules are important. And school isn't only about those rules. It's about new opportunities, chances to see our friends, school clubs to pursue our interests, and many other things.

I never had friends, everyone always shoved me around, so I got in a lot of fights. We didn't have clubs either. All I'm interested in, is alchemy.

You might meet other people interested in alchemy, people who can help you take your studies further.

[Ed stares, disbelieving.]

Really.

Why not? There are many people here from many worlds. Chances are some would share your interest. They might be able to share what they've learned. Their world might have developed different techniques.

Theoretically, even if they had developed something different, what makes you think I could apply their techniques? If they had alchemy and it worked differently, I wouldn't be able to.

You could learn those techniques. It might even help you with your own.

If I needed help.

[Ed tilts his head.] I'm pretty much a master.

Then you could help them. I'm sure they'd appreciate someone with that kind of skill working with them.

[Ed blinks.]

Help them...? I don't need students.
