[Not too long at all after his broadcast, someone comes across him - a relatively short warrior sent on a routine scouting expedition from the army camp outside the capital. Mulan heard just the tail end of that, but what she heard she certainly doesn't like. She is, however, keeping very quiet and a large boulder between them so he doesn't know she's there quite yet. After the slight misunderstanding with Joluk, she's not about to take anyone at face value. ]

[Kain is scowling, lance in hand. He's a stern, imposing figure of a man, as he restlessly moves along on his way. At the moment, he'll readily strike down anyone who opposes him. He's frustrated from all the conversations he's been having.]

[She's seen bigger. What's most apparent to her is that Kain looks - and acts - like a man who's about to do something terrible, something stupid, or both. And it's her job to stop things like that happening.]

[She's not coming out from behind that boulder just yet, though - a little more observation can't hurt.]

[Kain goes instantly into an attacking stance. He clearly means Serious Business.]

[Yeeeeaaaah, that's definitely not a good thing. Mulan quickly slides her bow out of its quiver, stringing it with a small coil from her pocket.]

You should answer a representative of the Emperor of the land you're in.

[Kain remains in his attacking stance, subtly shifting his legs to prepare himself for a Jump. But he makes no apparently noticeable moves. Yet.]

I've had no difficulty moving freely through this land before.

Then you should have no trouble answering an honest question.

[She reaches for an arrow and then steps out from behind the boulder, arrow notched to the string but not - yet - pointing at him. Mulan's ready to fire at the first sign of overt hostility, though, and she's still a good twenty feet away from him.]

Our people have had enough trouble over the past years - we have a right to make sure that our realm will stay peaceful.

[Yep, he's still tensed and ready to spring. Also, very obviously annoyed.]

[She's slowly bringing the arrow up, in that way that shows she's ready to snap it up at any given moment.]

If you can't tell me what you're doing here, I'll be forced to see you as an enemy.

[Kain hardly cares anymore, what use is there in upholding the honor of a kingdom that no longer exists? So he leaps at once to the air, soaring high above and aiming his lance down as he jumps toward her.]

[Well she wasn't expecting that. With a gasp, Mulan swings the bow up and lets the arrow fly, beginning to run at the same time so she's hopefully not in his landing spot. The bow is tossed away to be retrieved later as her sword is drawn, her feet still moving, trying to gauge where he'll come down so she can avoid it.]

[Kain comes down, descending just out of the path of the arrow. He lands and straightens, moving to stab his weapon in her direction.]
