I was patient. I was good. I was waiting for this new phenomena of 3-D movies to grow on me. It hasn't.
So far, I have see five 3-D movies. And in my ever so humble opinion they suck unless they were made by Pixar. 'Toy Story 3' and 'UP' were beautiful, touching and enjoyable. And most important of all, they did not hurt my eyes and did not give me a headache.
They three other movies that I saw - 'How to Train Your Dragon', 'Alice in Wonderland', and 'Despicable Me' - made me miserable.
Although I liked all three moves to certain degree, I wish Hollywood would stop doing things just because if they don't know how to do them.
Today we saw 'Despicable Me'. The whole movie had crappy picture and while wearing 3-D glasses everything on the screen had double line to it. Without the glasses, it looked almost unrecognizable. The movie itself, was ok - could've been shortened quite a bit, but overall, it wasn't bad. However, it was not worth to me to leave the theater with a massive headache and eye strain.
Although while watching 'How to Train Your Dragon' and 'Alice in Wonderland', I did not see the double outline on the screen, I still left the theater with the eye strain and headache.
I loath the thought that 3-D is the future (wasn't the 'new' experience I used to watch in Odessa movies in the 1980's?).*
