serena_femslash After finishing with the witness that she’d got off the minor drugs charge, Abbie made her way to her office thinking over the lunchtime conversation she’d had the day before with Alex and Serena, and how the latter seemed slightly more withdrawn after the phone call. ‘Why was that’ Abbie thought ‘She knows it wasn’t a personal call because I said it was work related, so if it wasn’t the reason for the call then…’
Running through the events after they had sat down at the table in her mind, she entered her office and made her way to her desk. When she reached the part where her cell rang she realised what had caused the change in the newest ADA, “Alex hadn’t told her it was me and Serena didn’t know who I was until I answer my cell. Damn it!” said Abbie out loud as she all but fell into the chair behind her desk.
Realising that pointing things out aloud was not the best idea, as anyone could walk into her office at any time, Abbie mentally continued what she had started aloud only to be jolted from her internal dialogue a few minutes later by her cell ringing. “Carmichael” Abbie automatically answered, though slightly distracted “Hi Abbie its Serena. We err sort of met yesterday when you joined Alex and me for lunch”, came Serena’s slightly nervous voice.
“Hi, and for the record I didn’t have anything to do with the stunt Alex pulled yesterday. Umm how did you get my cell phone number because I’m sure I didn’t give it to you yesterday”, said Abbie “Not that I mind that you have it” she added so that Serena would not think she was mad.
“I err I asked Alex for it because I was wondering if you’d want to meet up for a drink some time seeing as we didn’t get off to a great start yesterday and I’d like to see if we could be friends” babbled Serena in a slight rush.
‘This is cute, she’s nervous, babbling and I’ll bet a little red faced’ thought Abbie “Sure, I’d like us to be friends to. Are you free tonight because I don’t know about you but I could use a night out and forget about work for a few hours” said Abbie, not realizing that there was a slight pleading tone in her voice.
“I think I should be able to get way for the night but if not I’ll give you a call to rearrange” responded Serena in a calmer voice. “Sounds good do you want me to call you as soon as I’m done here?” asked Abbie “as long as you don’t cancel on me first” she added in a light tone.
“Umm yeah could you. Would it be possible for you to meet me outside Hogan Place as I don’t know where your office or place are and you don’t know where I live, and by the time we’re done with work we might as well go straight to Evergreens, its an uptown bar that I found a few weeks after I started at the DAs office, as it gets busy later on” suggested Serena.
“Sounds like a plan to me. I guess all that remains is for me to get through the paperwork that comes with the job or I won’t be able to meet you” commented Abbie happily.
“Yeah that would be a good idea, so I’ll see you later then?” asked Serena, the nervousness entering her voice again. “Yes you will as long as you let me get on with work” Abbie replied with a throaty chuckle.
“Umm ok I’ll let you get back to work” said Serena just before she hung up.
Leaning back in her chair Abbie had to stop herself from leaping up and punching the air, but didn’t try to stop the broad grin that matched the sparkle that appeared in her eyes. In another office, another lawyer was realising a breath and sat down at a desk with a goofy grin on her face and thinking ‘I all but asked Abigail Carmichael out on a date’ before starting on her own pile of paperwork that Jack had left her.
