day 14 - a song that no one would expect you to love
I find that I don’t know the general expectations of other people; since of course everyone has their own personal view of me and the music that I would like and some of those are more correct than others. So I chose a song that I wouldn’t expect me to love, based on a rough description of the song. I choose “Love Story” by Taylor Swift.
Here are the elements that I don’t usually like in a song:
-sounds kinda like the singer should be wearing a cowboy hat
-quite popular
-artist has a clean-cut image of wholesomeness
-lyrics tell a story of unlikely love, which raises the expectations for impressionable listeners
-most of the fans of this song are younger than me
-whoever wrote it was going more for scansion rather than accuracy (may I point you towards the glaringly obvious fact that though their love may have been true, Romeo and Juliet didn’t exactly get to enjoy their honeymoon... what with their double suicide and all)
In spite of these points, I still really enjoy this song and sing it happily when it comes on, though it makes my inner critic cringe every time.
