a general update that mostly involves work
ah, work...did i tell anyone that on my first day i had to fire 3 people? it was hard, but totally ended up being the right thing to do. we've been trying to deal with not being able to fill orders due to:
1. people keep quitting. i think 10 people have quit (or just didn't ever show up even after a follow up confirmation 3 days before we started). we are sort of desperate, so anyone who knows anyone looking for a job...
2. the stupid stupid rain. we had to cancel the busiest day at moss street market because we didn't have any blueberries to sell there (which also meant cancelling 50 pre-orders for a total of approximately 900 pounds)
3. the cold spring has delayed the season so there are still so many green berries.
ruby has commented repeatedly about what a great crew we had last year and how much she wishes you were back, nola. there aren't any super-super fast pickers yet, but a few of them do have a good quality pick.
i filled out my swap application today for japan. hopefully i'll get accepted and don't have to do all of the visa crap myself, which involves actually going to the japanese consulate in vancouver and applying in person.
