I received one of these once. My book was rejected for 'the artwork is too rough'. I ended up with eight boxes full of The Stork #1, most of which are still in my basement. At the time I had no real plan for how to distribute them if Diamond opted not to pick me up. I had already sold over three hundred copies locally and didn't have the time or money to send out hundreds of review copies to the handful of comic stores who were sympathetic to small press books. FMI Distribution, bless 'em, ordered five copies. (The order arrived a full year after I solicited it, but that's another story entirely.) The three hundred copies had helped to pay the rent over the summer of 1997, but ends were not meeting up and it was time to get a job.
What I'm getting around to is this:
