Taking a strong moral position enhances the flexibility of one's future decisions. This action invites both supporters and detractors of said position to affix their own causes to one's personal record of integrity. In this way, one may harness the resources of competing groups to achieve one's own ends. The effect is amplified in proportion to the number of persons claiming an interest in each successive moral position.
