I'm not saying there's a causal link between the fact that, way back when, John "Earthquake" Tenta was the only WWF wrestler who didn't give me an autograph when I happened to run into a bunch of them at the airport the day after a show, and the fact that he
has died two weeks shy of his 43rd birthday. I will, however, point out:
Mr. Fuji? Still alive and kicking at 71.
Bret "Hitman" Hart? Still alive, despite a stroke.
Jake "The Snake" Roberts? Still alive, despite a suicidal drug habit.
I eventually forgave Earthquake. I mean, he was a big-time heel, back in the days of kayfabe. It was only natural for him to blow off some kid who wanted an autograph. Plus, Golga was pretty funny. Rest in peace, Mr. Tenta. You were a far better bad guy than most people remember.
