Woke up yesterday already behind, cleaned apartment, did laundry, created a program (with some lovely typos as I didn't give myself time to proofread), creatively deleted things from my To-Do list through simplification, substitution and procrastination, jumped into the car a full 90 minutes behind schedule and zipped up to the Cities at a fair clip.
Not fair enough, though, as I arrived 5 minutes late for the curtain of Monster, the first show I was going to see. I was bummed, but thankful for the time to complete a prop we needed for the show (a flip chart of inappropriate illustrations) and fold programs.
For my second show I was going to see Bard Fiction, but my Stage Manager persuaded me to reschedule that for Saturday so we could stay on the premises and save valuable prep time - so we stayed and saw the show before ours, a dance comedy called Lick!
I'm pretty sure I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. It was like the bastard love child of Forever Plaid and Blades of Glory. Highly entertaining.
Then our show took the last timeslot of the evening. I was pleased with how many we had for the audience at 10pm on a Thursday night. I wasn't sure how it was going for most of the show - my actors performed beautifully, but the audience wasn't very vocal - there was a lot of shocked silence.
At the end, though, there was much appreciative applause, and we've gotten great feedback and terrific reviews. The show seems to definitely push the envelope, but not too far and not without purpose. I'm extremely proud of my cracky peeps for pulling off this weird, weird show!
Check out our audience reviews so far...
