Character Name: Death the Kid
Fandom: Soul Eater, mangaverse
Gender: Male
Age: 14ish
Sexuality (if applicable): Heterosexual
Original or Anomaly?: Original

Appearance:
Death the Kid is about average height, around five-ish feet tall, and normally wears a black suit and white shirt, with skull adornments at his neck, where a tie would go, and two skull rings on his middle fingers. He has yellow eyes and the left side of his head has three white stripes on his otherwise black hair. Sometimes he wears suspenders underneath the suit jacket and the buckles are also in the same skull shape as the rings and neck adornment. This is Kid in his Stance of Sin (and that's Patti on the left and her older sister Liz on the right. Kid adopts this stance with or without his guns. When he does have his guns, he holds them upside down and pulls the triggers with his pinky fingers.

On occasion, Kid wears a cloak and mask, mostly to protect himself from the weather or he simply feels like wearing it. Wearing this, he looks almost exactly like his father, who dons a matching mask and black cloak.

Personality:
First and foremost, Death the Kid is dignified and poised. He comes off as serious and respectable--as he should, being Shinigami's son. He strives for excellence and absolute perfection in every area of his life and in others'...

...To an extreme. All signs indicate that Kid suffers from a form of obsessive-compulsive disorder relating to symmetry. He adores all things symmetrical, no, adore is an understatement. Even the word 'love' wouldn't come close. If he could have any goal in life, it would be to place everything into complete balance. For now, he makes sure that everything, from the toilet paper folded up into a perfect triangle, the picture in the front room is perfectly parallel to the ground, to the candles on the mantle, etc. are arranged in a bilateral symmetrical order.

Normally, he is quiet and dignified--that persona is no lie. That's actually very standard, as is his suit. But he can be just as loud and mouthy as the rest of them, especially when he's in a rage over something asymmetrical.

He tends to have different reactions to things that aren't symmetrical. He goes into a deep depression, cursing his very existence over the mention of his peculiar hair or the fact that he accidentally destroyed something symmetrical. A more extreme reaction would be fainting and coughing up blood if, say, a small portion of his hair was cut or he failed to make something perfectly symmetrical.

The most extreme reaction, however, would come about if something symmetrical was destroyed on purpose. He'll launch into a blind rage, bound and determined to wipe the offensive thing from sight with every ounce of power he can summon up at the time. Those are the usual reactions, anyway. He's more than likely to get depressed and quickly lose all self-confidence, especially in situations of high stress and asymmetry. He doubts himself during this periods of depression and convinces himself that something back home is not positioned perfectly or that he forgot to do something as simple as folding the toilet paper end into a triangle. Oh, and if he notices something horribly asymmetrical or vice versa, it doesn't matter where or in what situation he is in, he will stop and pay it some attention.

When he does fall into pits of despair and depression, he needs a good ego boost (or kick to the head, or something horribly asymmetrical) to distract him and get him back on track. Lately, though, he's been getting better with this and can resist breaking down into a gibbering mess and calling himself a pig and unworthy of life. He's gotten better.

This, in part, is most likely due to the friends he's made since joining Shibusen. He opens up the most with them--Maka, Soul, Black*Star, Tsubaki, and of course Liz and Patti. He knows how to have fun and likes to play basketball with them. Kid cares for all his friends, as well as the rest of the students and teachers.

He's a smart person, and loves to read, but on tests he doesn't do well at all. Mainly because of one thing in particular: If he has to write his name for the test, he will be stuck on that until he gets every letter spaced out exactly the same width from each other and that every letter is perfect. He's failed more paper tests this way and has had to redo them.

He also skateboards or follows it to some extent. He owns a skateboard named Beelzebub. And his favorite number is 8 because it is the most symmetrical number ever and can be divided up evenly into quarters. He detests the number seven and really any number that by look isn't symmetrical. Item wise, he doesn't discriminate that much--just as long as the two halves of a picture are equal, he's fine with things being in threes, fives, etc. (Like, the front of Shibusen has three points, as well as all the skull accessories he wears.) It really is all about balance.

History:
Compared to other kids at Shinigami Buki Shokunin Senmon Gakkou, or Shibusen for short, Death the Kid has had a relatively easy life. He was raised by his father in some capacity, though Shinigami was and is always busy, so how much Kid actually gets to see his father is questionable. (And of his mother, we haven't met her yet and no mention has been made of her.) Despite this, Kid respects and presumably loves his father, and in turn, Shinigami adores his son.

Kid can be a bit of a handful, especially in cases where his OCD overwhelms him. Even so, Shinigami agrees to his training Liz and Patti (more on them in a second) to be his own weapons--as a shinigami, Kid has no need to, but he wants to anyway--and agrees to his attending classes at Shibusen. Again, he doesn't have to. He simply has to collect twice the many souls as other meisters because of his two weapons. They each need 99 human souls and one witch soul.

Sometime in the past, before the story started, Kid was mugged in an alley in Brooklyn by Liz and Patti Thompson. They grew up on the streets, and being born as weapons--guns, actually--they chose a lifestyle of petty theft and mugging. They had no direction. Until they met Kid. Something between them clicked that day and he chose them to be his weapons, as he needed twin weapons or else he wouldn't be able to fight. Even now, he physically can't fight if he doesn't have both of them.

Normally, it is almost unheard of for a meister to wield two weapons simply because the meister's soul and the weapon's soul must resonate--basically have good chemistry between the two of them, so adding a third party into the mix often makes it hard for all three to resonate together. However, because Liz and Patti admire Kid's dignified soul and he admires their positive souls, the partnership works harmoniously.

Nothing yet has made Kid ever question his partnership with the Thompson sisters. With his father, however, recent events have made it so Kid doesn't feel he can go to his father for answers. The last time he did, Shinigami didn't tell him anything. So for any further information, Kid has to investigate it for himself. Which is just as well, seeing as the information he wishes to find relates to the connection between his father and an evil sorcerer named Eibon...

Despite this, Kid still follows orders from his father, continuing to fight in the war to defend the world from a threat called Arachnophobia, headed by a powerful witch named Arachne. So far, the battles have consisted of collecting special items called demon tools, all of which contain vast power. It's a matter of which side has more and how they're used--or not used, in the case of Shibusen's collection.

Recently, the only item that has been sent into the field is a special artifact called Brew, and Kid has this in his possession at the insistence of his father. Not much is known about it, except that Kid accidentally activated it, which caused his soul wavelength and energy to increase at an exponential rate, and with that additional energy, he was able to reattach his arm that had been lopped off and part of his latent shinigami powers awakened (the middle line of the three in his hair connected, indicating his increased power). However, this power-up left him with some internal damage that would heal over time. It's just something that can't be utilized for every fight, not that he has any idea how to use Brew again even if he wanted to.

Strengths:
Because of his shinigami physiology, he cannot be burned by the sun, and his body repels poison and isn't affected by extreme heat. He can perceive the presence of souls, which is a talent that isn't too widely spread amongst the meisters of his age level. He also has strong, latent abilities which he has yet to be able to tap into many of them. However, as he is now, he is super fast and a highly skilled hand-to-hand fighter, as well as a spot-on shot with his two gun weapons, Liz and Patti. When he has them, he uses a gun-kata form to fight.

His skateboard, Beelzebub, is capable of flight--as in very fast kind of flight--that he summons out of his right hand.

When he does tap into his shinigami powers, he can change Liz and Patti's gun forms--for instance, during one attack in particular, Liz and Patti become like cannon barrels on Kid's forearms and through them can blast his opponent with a huge amount of soul energy. (The Thompson sisters can convert Kid's soul energy into bullets instead of, well, using real bullets.)

Weaknesses:
Thanks to his body's poison repulsion, he cannot use hair dye to fix the three stripes in his hair. They just reappear (and cause further mental anguish.) His symmetry OCD can be quite debilitating in general, especially in battle. Even under the most dire of circumstances, he can be distracted by something asymmetrical (however, if something symmetrical is destroyed, the offender has Kid's complete and utterly wrath-filled attention. In which case, this part would become a strength.) Also, if fighting with his partners, he must have both of them or else he won't fight.
