1. Name: Jordan.
2. Age: Nineteen.
3. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose? I'm not really sure. I think probably somewhere in England, maybe Oxford or another sort of mid-sized university town. I haven't spent all that much time in England so I obviously don't know for sure, but I did like what I saw when I visited. :) I wouldn't mind living in San Francisco or Portland (Oregon), either. They're both kind of smugly "hip," but they're nice cities. Aside from that . . . if there wasn't so much crime in Washington D.C., I think living there would be fascinating. And I like that it gets quite cold there, I'm fond of cold weather.
4. What would your Room of Requirement look like? It would probably be a strange combination of library, movie theater, horse barn, and well-stocked kitchen. I know, I know, it sounds weird. But especially when I'm away at school, those are the things I miss most - time to read for fun, seeing good movies, horseback riding, and being able to cook food that I like for myself. I think that answer's on the short side, but there's not really any deep or convoluted thinking behind it. Right now, those are the three things I'd like to have the most. Oh, and there would have to be tea. Lots of tea. And probably my computer, for the music on it. ;)
5. Who is your least favorite Harry Potter character? I know it's awfully uninspired to say so, but I really don't like Umbridge. I hate that sort of relentlessly bureaucratic attitude, it just rubs me the wrong way. And I had a teacher in high school who had that same combination of surface sweetness and hidden venom. Like Umbridge, she had no faith in her students as people or as students, as well - when we read The Once and Future King, she cut the books into quarters, put the class in groups of four, and assigned one person in each group to read one part of the book because she thought the whole book was too long for an honors English class to read. Ridiculous!
6. Is the glass half empty or half full? I tend to be fairly pessimistic, so I suppose it's half-empty. But I do try to see the positive in life - I think I'm a natural optimist trying to get past a lot of grown-up cynicism that I cultivated in high school, if that makes sense.
7. Give us a quotation (Can be from a famous person, a song, or even a poem-whatever you want) you feel represents your life or personality. "All right, have it your own way. Not my fault. Road to hell paved with unbought stuffed dogs."
From The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway. I usually don't care much for Hemingway, but I'm a frankly amazing procrastinator, and I think this quote speaks to that quite nicely. ;)
8. In your life, who comes first: family or friends? This is a bit tough for me to answer. Right now, I don't have any very close friends (most of the people that were my close friends either are far away, or, um, betrayed me, sort of), and I am very close to my family. But I'm not close to them because they're my family - they're really my friends, too. So, in a roundabout way, I suppose that means friends come first as far as I'm concerned. You choose your friends, after all, but you can't choose your family.
9. What is your favorite childhood memory? Errrr, probably my first horseback riding lesson. Honestly, though, a lot of my favourite memories come from horseback riding, even ones that aren't strictly "childhood." I tend to give up quite easily on things I don't succeed at right away, but in spite of never being brilliant at horseback riding, I kept doing it, so it's rather important to me for that. I also work at a film festival whcih I've been going to with my parents pretty much since I was born and I have some lovely memories from there, just little things like sitting on big red velveteen couches amidst the flurry of activity in the theater, that sort of thing.
10. What would you say is your biggest flaw? As I mentioned above, I give up easily on things that don't come easily to me, which tends to be a lot more things now that I'm older and it's hard to learn things. ;) I also am very intellectually lazy - I don't mean that I don't like to think, but rather, that I don't like to do schoolwork that I have to do. I procrastinate on other things too, but never so much as on anything academic. Aside from that, I have a hard time believing in myself, which can be more crippling than whatever I'm worried about not being able to do. I tend to be distant and a little cold, especially when I'm uncomfortable. Oh, and I'm really stubborn.
11. If you had been at Hogwarts during Harry’s fifth year, do you think that you would have joined the D.A.? Damn straight I would have. As I said earlier, Umbridge is probably my least favourite HP character, so there's that. But I also think I would have joined with the camaraderie and the learning in mind.
12. Describe how you react to difficult or stressful situations. Usually I get very closed-off and distant, particularly if my stress is related to schoolwork or friendship issues. Occasionally, though, I get very frantic and waste a lot of energy sputtering and yelling and trying to accomplish things without getting much done; that would be more in a group situation, I suppose, especially one in which no one is listening to anyone else. If I'm by myself (or under a lot of stress, but, um), there's a chance I'll start crying, but I hate to cry.
13. Which do you value more: compassion or justice? In theory, justice. In practice, compassion. I'm quite soft at heart, really - that's all there is to it.
14. Would you say that you’re a child at heart, or that you have an old soul? Errr. Well, my father (who is, um, big on metaphysical sorts of things, though he hides it well) says I have an old soul, which would be supported by superficial things like my dislike of partying in the "typical" college sense, and how quiet I tend to be, but then again, my idea of a good time is spending four hours watching cartoons and eating fruit snacks. So . . . I guess you might say a very aged eight years old. ;)
15. Which Hogwarts House do you think that the Sorting Hat would place you in? I think other people would say I should be in Ravenclaw, since I really am quite indisputably nerdy. But as a child I was very, very outspoken, to the point of being bossy (comes of being an only child, you know) and I do still have those tendencies. I'm shy now, because of a long list of things that I don't think I need to extrapolate on here. That doesn't mean I can't be brave.
