A/N: Sorry it took forever for me to post this. My life's been one giant clusterfuck of late, and I haven't been able to make FF writing a priority.

“Wait, what?”
“You’re right. I have been acting like a jerk.”
Gracie eyes him cautiously. “Oh. Well, good. We’re in agreement then.”
“That being said, may I respond to that verbal affront? Only if you’re finished, of course.”
Gracie's posture deflates immediately. “Go ahead.”
Jack poignantly stares out her bedroom window. “Sweetheart…sex can be so incredibly emotionally-charged for women, especially at your age. And my first instinct is always going to be to protect you. Always. It’s unconscious, innate. I can’t stop it, and I wouldn’t want to.” He turns; tears welling up in his eyes. “Gracie, I love you more than anything in the world, and I’m scared. I’m terrified that you’re going to get hurt, and there’s absolutely nothing I can do to stop it."
"Lane’s not going to hurt me."
"Not intentionally, no.” He sits down next to her on the end of the bed. “But he’s 16, and 16 year old boys aren't always gentlemen. Men of all ages can be real bastards, honey. God knows I was…" His gaze drifts towards the floor, mind clogging with culpable reflection. "If I thought for even one second I’d end up fathering three such amazing daughters, I’d like to believe I would have done a lot of things differently.”
Gracie’s quiet chuckle breaks the silence. “Bastard seems a little harsh. Notorious womanizer, yeah. That doesn't automatically make you a bastard, though.”
“Notorious?”
“I’ve read your Wikipedia page.”
His face tenses. “Your sisters too?”
She simultaneously laughs and nods.
“All lies!” he barks, but immediately breaks, erupting into laughter right along with her; yanks her closer, into a smothering embrace, holds her as long as she’ll allow. “I'm sorry, sweetheart."
“I’m sorry, too.”
And Liz breathes a gigantic sigh of relief on the opposite side of the bedroom door.
