I know! It was really kinda weird not to have Jack involved in any way. But I wanted to see if I could do it. I've never written a stand alone drabble either, so I was into the challenge of it all.

(Full disclosure: I'm working on another really smutty Jack/Liz piece where they're just friends with Jack/hot young things and Liz/Gretchen. It's so strange to write something dirty and not have them going to town on each other.)

(I agree! Though there is much more fic then there was when I first started writing them. But anyway, I should let myself write an actual non-UST-y friendship fic. I can't seem to, and their BFF-ness is adorable.)

Almost any time I think I'm writing a friendship fic, some UST somehow gets in there.

I would tend to agree with you. This is part of reason why I try not to mention Jack when I pair Liz with other people, so I can just ignore it instead of getting sidetracked by my OTP. (And why I had Jack mention Liz during that Jack/Jenna fic I wrote.)

I totally know what you mean. I'm finding myself adding little tidbits of Jack/Liz UST in the fic I mentioned I'm working on with Liz/Gretchen and Jack/others. It's like you just can't avoid it.

Depends on the length of the fic--there are times on the show where Jack and Liz just seem like friends, so if a fic is just showing them in a "friendship moment," it still feels like the show to me. It would seem weird if they didn't seem to care about each other at all, though.
