Rawabi will be a state-of-the-art new city - a residential, commercial, cultural, and economic development complex of more than 5,000 affordable housing units that once completed will be home to up to 40,000 Palestinians. The city will encompass a central commercial area with banks, retail shops, gasoline stations, medical offices, professional services offices, schools, community playgrounds, walking trails, a hospital, a hotel, a movie theater and other arts venues.
Rawabi is 9 km north of Ramallah. The town of Birzeit, home to one of Palestine’s reputable universities, is less than 4 km to the south of Rawabi. Rawabi is 20 km to the north of Jerusalem and 25 km south of Nablus. From the hilltops of Rawabi, one has a panoramic view of the Mediterranean's eastern coastal line, located 40 kilometers to the west. The Jordanian capital, Amman, is 70 kilometers to the east of Rawabi.
Once built, numerous Palestinian villages, nine of which are immediately adjacent, will surround Rawabi. The development and construction of Rawabi will greatly impact the economic performance, infrastructure, and public services of these surrounding villages.
Subsequent development phases will be planned in accordance with future masterplans under the oversight of the Palestinian Authority. The population of Rawabi is expected to ultimately reach 40,000.
