i had a really lovely weekend. it started friday afternoon when all of my coworkers left early and i had the office to myself. i propped my feet up, faced my new window to watch the impending storm, and read a couple of zines. i could have just left early but i liked having some alone time to read.
friday night i don't think anything spectacular happened. dh was super tired from spending the afternoon at the international memphis in may BBQ fest tasting BBQ'd delicacies and drinking beer. i was happy that he got to do something fun sunce he never will do anything for himself. i got the kids fed and he rested. then he took satchel on a looooooong bike ride and i got jiro to bed early. once we got satchel to bed we curled up on the sofa to watch a movie together which we haven't done in ages. he rented "what the (bleep) do we know" and it was HORRIBLE. UNWATCHABLE. SO. BAD. god. he is fired from picking out movies. it was like a pbs special or something. i definitely would have walked out of the theater and demanded my money back! ha. anyway it gave me a good excuse snuggle up and fall asleep in the crook of dh's arm which hasn't happened in YEARS.
saturday morning dh made a yummy breakfast and then we went to the old forest trails. the critters were out in full force again and we happened upon Mr. Zoo Official leading a nature walk so we got to have some wisdom imparted on us. then we went to the pond and watched the tadpoles and let the dogs swim. jiro fell asleep in the backpack and satchel was begging to get in the water. (a first for mr. scaredy!) it was a scorcher so we decided to go home and fill up the baby pool (that i was supposed to birth in but never did). i think satchel got in it for like a second. i got everyone fed and asleep and dh went to home depot so i went to sleep too! i love napping! then we went to the playground, target, and then out to a chinese buffet. jiro was so sleeeeeeeeepy so we put him to bed and then teh three of us watched "lemony snicket's a series of unfortunate events." it was ok. it was fun watching a movie together that didn't suck like "what the (bleep) do we know."
sunday i let satch and dh sleep in and then snuck in a nap later when they went to the trails. two naps in two days! i am the luckiest woman in the world! then dh went to work on our future screened in porch and i amused the children at the playground and then the duckpond and then at home and then back at the playground.
i felt like super mom. i was absolutely enjoying myself 100% and couldn't think of a place i'd rather be. i felt so in the moment and just soaked up those beautiful boys. i swear i could just watch them forever. jiro is totally practicing his walking and is so proud of himself. it is so cute. he is so fearless and tough. satchel is getting to be more social and made friends with a 5 year old girl. they played the "i bet you can't do this" game for like an hour. he is such the little ladies man already. and dh was just like super dad too. building, fixing, cooking, playing with the kids, being nice, looking hot in his new retro shorts.
this probably all sounds dull, and i doubt anyone is still reading, but it was just one of the best weekends ever. we were all fitting together perfectly and i felt like i knew what "it" was all about.
oh and i had a great dream about my dad--who i've only dreamt about like 4 times since he died 7 years ago--and i got to hug him and i could SMELL him. i miss his smell.
