Film Review: Tangled (2010)
Tangled (2010). Directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, and based on the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. The film starts with a drop of sunlight falling to Earth, which creates a flower capable of healing any injury, and extending the life of anyone around it. The flower is selfishly hidden by Gothel, who uses it to live for many years. When the Queen falls ill while pregnant, the King orders a search for the legendary flower. Gothel accidentally uncovers the flower and it is taken by the King's soldiers, and it is used to heal the Queen. The power of the flower is passed on to the baby, who is then kidnapped by Gothel in the hope that the child has that same power. Tangled falls into that category of particularly-fun-and-charming-Disney-films. Although not quite a classic, it is definitely one of their better efforts, with some strong characters and an amusing script. It's also a musical, if you can stand the somewhat whiny singing of Rapunzel (Mandy Moore). At some points it almost feels like a classy Shrek, before the franchise was worn out. Despite the fairly strong and "violent" story, at times, my 2 and three quarter year old enjoyed it. Recommended for those who like a bit of Disney. 4/5 (Good)
