It had been a particularly long few days by the time one Dr. Spencer Reid finally made it back to his apartment via cab this time instead of the bus. He still had Owen’s face written permanently into his brain and it probably wouldn’t fade anytime soon because if anyone identified with the unsub this time, it would be Reid, simply because he’d also been just as bullied in school and was made to remember that fact, along with finally divulging his longtime secret to Morgan in the end. To say that he hoped the kid made it through his sentence in one piece was a huge understatement; Reid just hoped he’d at least live another month because, if the tables had been turned, Reid wouldn’t have lasted another day, much less a week! So, he was extremely exhausted by the time he rode the elevator up to the second floor, where he’d walk a bit down the hallway to his apartment, one that was straight across from Michael’s, the man he’d met just about three weeks ago, quite by accident and now, they were really good friends.

It had been about those same three weeks ago when Reid had returned home only to find this poor man almost lying in the hallway, suffering from an extreme case of asthma and, instead of calling an ambulance, Reid hauled the man to his feet and drove him to the hospital, himself. Come to find out, if they’d waited on the ambulance, Michael Hart would be dead to this day and since the team had been unable to save a victim from a violent crime just hours before, it made Reid feel very valuable and needed since he’d been able to save one man all by himself. And, since then, he was very prone to check on Michael before the BAU would leave port into another state; making sure he had all of his medical supplies and enough food and such to get him through for another week. Reid never really knew just how long they’d be called out on a case and he had to make sure that Michael would be alright while he was gone. He’d just texted Michael as soon as they landed but it had taken him a couple of hours to help finish the paperwork before he was allowed to go back home. It was only as Reid stepped off the second floor elevator that he checked his phone to see if anyone had texted him back and as soon as he realized that Michael texted him back, Reid was about to respond before the door opened and Michael stepped out. “Oh, hey,” Reid said quietly, “I was just about to text you back to see if you needed anything before I went inside.”
