I may love wine, but must remember that too much does lead to hangovers. I'm still wondering how I managed to drive back from Bridport to Salisbury yesterday morning without incident, seeing as I was suffering from a distinct lack of blood sugar. There was a cold bottle of coke near to me throughout the journey, but drinking bottles at the same time as driving is a little difficult when traversing winding country roads - screw caps are a bugger sometimes.
The hangover was devised at my former boss's place outside of Bridport in Dorset on Monday afternoon. And in Bridport I witnessed my first game of Real Tennis and found (as per usual) that I would love to have a go. If only to get to play blokes with triple barralled surnames, because of course, a double barralled surname is just so bourgeois. The game itself appears to be a cross between lawn tennis and squash - both sports are derived from this game - and has a couple of interesting additions not found in either of the latter games. There's another court nearer to me at Canford School in Wimbourne, and I might well give them a buzz for a lesson or two.
Of course the tennis didn't induce the hangover, that came from drinking a couple of bottles of rose and some Cape Mentelle sauvignon-semillion, and then a bottle of '99 Chateau Saint Pierre from St Julien that I had picked up about six months ago, and a bottle of '00 Cantemerle followed by a half bottle of Sauternes. The Saint Pierre won hands down - Simon remarked that he'd certainly look out for it in the future, which'll mean more en primeurs to add to his vast collection. Simon's cellar at home and abroad/bonded warehouse, is very impressive. it doesn't boast much in the way of first growths or big names like Le Pin or Petrus (which is seriously overrated btw), but is full of lesser known gems from all over the world. It is, in short, a true connoisseurs collection. Oh, and the wines that we won at Christmas are there too - so looking forward to them! Which'll mean another hangover inspired by Simon and Heather...
wine!
