Last Friday I decided to come out to my mom about my furriness. It went very well!
I began by sending her a text message along the lines of:
Remember how we used to howl at the moon when I was young? (we really did that, BTW :)
It appears to have had some permanent effects...
Come to my room!
When she opened my door I pounced on her, wearing
my fursuit, and gave her a big hug. She laughed long and heartily, and said that my costume was really sweet.
I then gave her some quick facts on furry, and she was really cool with the whole thing. In fact, she promptly suggested that she should come with me next time, as a logical step after our upcoming visit to
Burning Man. This was exactly what I was hoping for, so expect to see her at the next furry con I attend! ^^
Even though she's probably not "into" furry per se, I think she appreciates the fun and creativity that the fandom has to offer. She's already picked up on the word "
furpile," and talks about what kind of costume she should get for the con...
After our short discussion she insisted on taking me for a ride in the car in my fursuit. We had to open the sunroof because the ears wouldn't fit. :) I had fun waving at passers-by, but only a precious few smiled back. Most just froze and gave me long, dumb stares. The locals here are really boring. :(
In the evening I talked more with mom about the furry thing and showed her my AC photos and some
cool furry videos on YouTube. It was an awesome day! ^^
One thing remains, though: I still haven't told her about my sexuality. I may do so soon. Unfortunately, unlike furry, I expect this might cause her some grief.
