"When do I stop caring?" he said.
"What?" Nagi said, not liking the look in his face.
"You said I'd stop. That it'd get better."
Nagi read the reports. Kidnappings, people doing vile things to children. His hands were shaking.
"I was wrong," he said.
Mamoru looked confused.
"You're right to be angry, to be disgusted by this," Nagi said. "I'm angry." When had he started to care about things, about Mamoru? "Don't stop caring."
"Will it get better?" Mamoru asked. "Can you promise me?"
"Yes," Nagi said fiercely. "Yes."
