italics means flashback...I think there'll be a lot of italics in this series thingy -__-;;
"Hey, stranger. What'll you be having tonight?" The girl behind the counter drawled at him, popping fruity gum in boredom. Heero subtly leaned back, passing a bottle of cough medicine towards her.
"Sick, huh? It is flu season." She swiped it slowly, making Heero twitch. "Here you go."
He handed her the money and nodded at her in thanks, quickly walking away. The scenario was...a little too familiar for him.
-
"...I think my brain just exploded." Duo held his palm to his forehead, groaning.
"I told you not to overdo it." Heero gave him a put-upon look.
"It wasn't my fault! I couldn't just take all that crap lying down, could I?" Duo closed his eyes, leaning back against the arm of the couch. "Stupid newbies...but I showed 'em, right? Knocked that guy's ass straight into the mud. Didn't even realize it was raining." He chuckled.
"Not sure Une finds it as amusing." Heero moved Duo's hand from his head, putting a cold towel on instead.
"Yeah, well, I tried to tell her that one knock-knock joke about the cows and the trees, and she didn't find that funny, either." Duo raised a hand to shield his cough. "Thanks for looking after me. You do have the healing touch!"
Heero snorted. "You didn't exactly give me a choice. No matter what you say, having a person faint on you is not fun."
"I keep telling you, next time, just shove me off!" Duo grinned, suddenly opening one eye. "Besides, I bet you enjoyed it."
"Life is not complete until one experiences a dead weight dropped into their lap," Heero retorted. He started to move away, the look that passed onto Duo's face unnerving him. "I'll go get you some cough drops at the corner store. Rest."
Duo smiled, closing his eyes again. "Right. I'll do that."
-
Heero grimaced as he downed the medicine, reaching for a tissue to wipe the little plastic cup down with. It was raining outside his car, and it was dark. He'd have to find a nearby hotel to stay in. Heero exhaled softly, resting his head on the steering wheel. If Duo was with him, at that very moment...
Would Duo have taken care of him? Made a cold compress, put him on the couch, fussed for a bit? He smiled slightly, lifting himself up and turning the keys in the ignition.
It was something to look forward to.
