Horatio could think of other things to do on an evening out with Marisol but she had wanted to attend the charity gala so he had agreed. As he watched her laugh at something one of the people at their table said, Horatio couldn’t help but feel joy. Marisol was so full of life despite her illness and when he was with her, Horatio couldn’t help but feel full of life as well.

Marisol turned to him and smiled as she put her hand on top of his. As she squeezed his hand, she couldn’t but wonder how she had managed to find someone like Horatio. They both knew in that moment that the person they were with was the one. That mythical one that every person was supposed to have: a soul mate or other half. Neither Horatio nor Marisol had ever believed that they would find their soul mate for a variety of reasons.

“Bored Horatio?”
”There’s no place I’d rather be,” Horatio replied.
“We could go,” Marisol offered, “I Mean I am sure that we could find something else to do.”
”When you’re ready to go, we can go. Until then let’s just enjoy the night, isn’t there supposed to be dancing?” Horatio asked as he placed a kiss on her hand.
”After all of the long boring speeches.”
”Good, we’ll stay for a few dances.”

As Horatio held her hand, as Marisol knew that she wouldn’t be giving up her fight with the cancer anytime soon. He gave her the strength that she needed to continue her fight. Before she had met him, it had been hard to deal with both the physical and mental pain of her illness. It seemed that every time she started to get better, there would be some set back. Yet when she was with Horatio, Marisol didn’t seem to feel the pain as much or the exhaustion. She felt like she could take on anything that her disease threw her. And he gave her so much hope for a future, just when she had started to lose faith and hope that she would have a future.

”Do you need anything?” Horatio quietly asked.
”Not really. Perhaps a better place to take my fiancé to when we’re on a date.”
”It’s not that bad,” Horatio said with a smile as he took in the white walls of the hospital.
”No, it’s just not very romantic.”
”It doesn’t matter where we are.”
”I know,” Marisol said with a smile.
“Although I’ve made reservations for us tomorrow at our favourite restaurant.”
”Horatio, you shouldn’t have.”
”I know but I did.”
”Thank you.”

Horatio smiled at her and it reassured Marisol in ways that her family hadn’t been able to reassure her since she had become sick. Not only had Horatio restored her hope and faith, but he made her feel good. When he looked at her, she knew that no matter what, he saw her as attractive.

”I love you Horatio Caine.”
”And I love you,” Horatio replied as he leaned over and kissed her.
