Roy protectively put his body between his babies and the steps to the garden. Al crawled over and sat down on the back porch. When he saw the curious brown baby cat stray from his mother, he scooped her up carefully and put her closer to Roy's body.
When Wendy was back in Roy's reach, she nestled closer to her mother's breast and patiently endured a thorough licking. When the kittens were tired of playing with their mother, they rested between the two proud parents and fell asleep in the sunshine with the wood beneath them, warming their little bodies.
