An hour of research had led them nowhere. Spike had given up and walked outside leaving Xander shocked in his departure.
"Xander I'm sure that Spike-"
"What Willow, he decided 'hey Xander really is dying. Let me get the hell away from him' What lets him not have to deal with this ?" He knew that Spike wasn't doing that but the anger was giving him something to focus on. He was dying early, he reasoned, he could get away with it.
Buffy slid next to Xander. " I can't believe that I'm defending Spike but he's taking this hard too. Maybe you should let him vent."
Xander stood up "He can vent HERE. He could be here and love me and help me deal but he's out there..."
And just like that Xander's impending death felt more real.
