Their first meeting was an exceptionally awkward one where Ryan was in awe over working a case with the person who had inspired him to get into forensics. What made things even worse was that Horatio Caine had assigned her father’s case to Ryan, so that he could prove his ability. If that hadn’t made things awkward enough, the fact that Ryan was trying to fill the position that her friend and co-worker had held. Everyone in the Miami-Dade lab seemed to want to remind Ryan that he wasn’t Tim Speedle and that he never would be.
Yet when Horatio told him that he was on the team, Ryan couldn’t help but feel elation. He was finally going to be able to work the cases and help solve them instead of being called to the scene of the crime and to arrest the suspects. However, at the same time things still felt awkward for him since he knew that the rest of the team at the lab would still compare him to Speedle. As he made his way to his car, he spotted Calleigh walking towards him.
“Hi Ryan,” Calleigh called out in greeting.
“Hi Calleigh,” Ryan replied as he put his hands in his pockets.
“I just wanted to thank you again for handling the case so professionally. It couldn’t have been easy with me breathing down your neck.”
”It’s your father and I’m a rookie, I don’t blame you for being worried.”
”Still, it couldn’t have been easy. Anyhow welcome to the team,” Calleigh said with a brilliant smile.
”Thanks,” Ryan said, as her smile seemed to ease the awkward feeling.
