Spike stepped into Angel’s office quite carefully. The older vampire hadn’t sounded angry but you could never be sure. He found Angel sitting behind his desk.
"Close the door behind you and come sit down."
Spike did as he was told to and sat on one of the chairs set in front of Angel’s desk. He was feeling pretty nervous. What did Angel want to talk about? Was he going to accuse Spike about other things he had no idea or what?
"I couldn’t help hearing part of the conversation in the hallway. You want to tell me what it was about?"
"I don’t see why it’s any of your business but that man asked my help when he was interested of this one woman in the company. He just didn’t have the courage to talk to her. I helped along a little."
"Um, is that all there was between you two?"
Spike started to suspect he knew what this was about. However, he wasn’t going to make this easy.
"Yes. Should there be something else?"
Angel was drawing pictures to his desk with his fingers.
"So when I saw you hugging him he was just showing his gratitude?"
"Yes, were you thinking something else then?"
Spike tried to sound indifferent but he suspected he wasn’t succeeding in it. Things started to clear to him. Suddenly Angel was kneeling in front of him and burying his face into his lap. Angel’s arms went around his waist and the older vampire was squeezing him like his unlife depended on it. Spike saw Angel’s shoulders shaking a little and the small sobs revealed that Angel was crying. Then Angel lifted his head and Spike could see the tear tracks on his face.
"Can you ever forgive me?" Angel sobbed. "How could I ever think something like that about you? I’m so sorry."
Spike didn’t know what to say. His earlier confusion started to change into hurt. His Sire had obviously followed him and seen him. It was obvious his Sire didn’t trust him and that hurt deep. Spike was so deep in his thoughts that it caught him by surprise when Angel suddenly moved away but stayed kneeling on the floor.
"I should have known it was too late. I understand. I guess I don’t even deserve to be forgiven."
Spike watched his lover’s sad face and made his decision. This was too precious to be lost. Still something should be done to the trust issues but that could wait until later. Spike slid on the floor too and wrapped his arms around Angel.
"It’s not too late, luv. You did hurt me but I love you too much to give up now that I finally have you."
Angel’s eyes were full of surprise when he lifted his head again. Spike didn’t want to prolong it any further but pressed his lips against Angel’s. Things progressed from there pretty fast and Spike hoped the closed door would keep Angel’s nosy friends out.
