Clark laid in the bed tracing his fingers idly along Lex's arms, knowing that Chloe was doing the same thing. They knew that Lex needed these reminders of love even if he would never admit it. Lex smiled softly pulling them closer to him. Chloe looked across his chest at Clark and smiled. Clark felt his heart skipped a beat and felt that everything would be okay for the first time. But then all of the secrets that he was keeping rose back up in his mind. He knew he wasn't in the relationship as fully as Chloe and Lex...and it broke his heart. He honestly loved them but protecting them meant
not telling them everything, it meant keeping secrets And those secrets were going to push them away.
Clark knew he should end this now before things got out of control. Besides, a bitter voice in his head interjected, they'll be just fine together. Flashes from when he originally walked in the room and saw them together flashed through his mind and he knew that it was true.
"I think we should break up." Clark said quietly.
"Not the afterglow comment of the year Clark." Lex said a little distantly. He moved his arm away from Clark and Clark almost whimpered from the lost of contact.
"Maybe this isn't the best time but I honestly think we should." Clark said.
Chloe frowned and sat up to face Clark. "What brought this on?"
"Nothing Chlo. It's just I thought about this thing that we have going and," Clark sighed," we should end this before we get serious."
Chloe gave a mirthless laugh. "Oh you mean we do anything stupid like sleep together or something crazy like saying that you love us." She jumped out of the bed and started to gather clothes.
"But I do love you guys it's just-"
"Our hair isn't long and brown enough for you to actually mean it." Chloe snapped.
Clark looked at her incredulously "You think this is about Lana?"
"When isn't it?"
Clark looked at Lex. The bald man hadn't said anything and that was never good. Clark noticed that his eyes were quickly dulling. Almost as if the feeling in them were quickly slipping out.
It wasn't supposed to be like this. They were supposed to get upset yeah, but they were supposed to find comfort in each other so that he could take comfort that at least the people he loved were happy together.
Chloe shot him a disgusted look and raced out of the room.
Clark had the feeling that things weren't going to go the way he planned.
