By the time she makes it to his office doorway, Brittany's eyes are red and filled with tears, and she can't speak, spluttering and stopping through every half-syllable.
She doesn't need to talk; the smile on her face and the fire in her eyes tells House everything that he needs to know. He knew where she was supposed to be and what for, and now he knows what happened there, and his heart swells so much with pride that it might burst.
He's not a man who typically displays that much affection, but his love runs silent and deep. He knows what it's like to want something and do anything to get it; they share obsessive personalities. He's watched her turn her whole life around, study hard and practice harder, just waiting for this one opportunity people said she'd never have. Even he was surprised when she said she wasn't going to stop until she got to coach in the same league with Billy Donovan and Coach K.
But he never stopped believing she could do it.
He beckons for her, and she dashes through the office until she's standing in front of him, still beaming. He takes her hand in his and smiles back at her. They're so close that they can communicate with just a look or a gesture. Sometimes he thinks she can read his mind.
His smile grows and he tugs her until she falls into his arms, where he can hold her tight against him, who gives a damn who's watching. His wife is going to make history, be remembered forever, something he's still looking for, but he's damn proud that at least one of them has that now. Going down in history as the husband of the first female men's basketball coach wouldn't be that bad.
She chuckles in disbelief and kisses at his neck and he doesn't let go.
They never say a word. Between them, words are unnecessary. He can feel everything inside of her, and he's drawn to it, loves it all.
They're meant to be.
