Summary: 500w, Kurt and Duo go for a little moonlight ride
Author's Note: Also late! Again sorry!
In a fortnight Duo had annoyed Cyclops, gotten death threats from Wolverine and made even Storm blush. Overall, he’d settled in well. But Kurt noticed, although Duo flirted, he didn’t date. He wasn’t sure whether to feel hopeful about that or not. He soon got his answer.
‘Hey. You busy?’
Kurt looked up; Duo lounged against his doorframe, having appeared with the silent grace that he made look easy.
‘No. Why?’
‘How’d you feel about a little night time drive?’
‘I - suppose . . .’
‘Great!’ The devilish grin heralding mischief flashed, before Duo flicked the lights off and grabbed his arm.
Kurt shivered, the chill that came with Duo’s power of travelling through shadows making him uneasy. They reappeared in the garage, Duo heading to Cyclops’ motorcycle.
‘What are you doing?’
‘Can’t go driving without a vehicle,’ he replied, hot-wiring it.
‘Won’t Scott be angry?’
Duo brushed it off. ‘It’s fine, it’ll help him get over being angry at me for switching everyone’s underwear drawers round.’ Kurt couldn’t help smiling; that had been funny.
‘So where are we going?’
‘Ah, that, my indigo amigo, is a surprise.’
They roared off; Kurt behind Duo, arms and tail wrapped firmly around the slender waist and stomach fluttering. Finally stopping, Duo hid the bike and led Kurt through the trees until the foliage cleared, and the young man found himself standing before a glass like lake, reflecting a scimitar moon.
‘It’s beautiful,’ he said staring, voice hushed in awe.
‘Glad you like it.’ Duo was smiling, but still seemed nervous. He’d spread out a blanket and cushions he’d brought and motioned for Kurt to sit down. ‘I also brought sodas,’ he said, pleased, handing Kurt one from a small cooler hidden in the bushes and sitting next to him.
Kurt suspected Duo had been planning this for a while, and he couldn’t help feeling flattered. He was also happy to see Duo’s eyes again, looking like they glittered with starlight of their own. Duo could see as well at night as a normal person could in the day, but it meant anything above a dim light aggravated him, so sunglasses usually shielded his eyes, which was a great pity. They sat in comfortable silence for a while, Kurt leaning closer to Duo’s warmth, tail end resting on Duo’s hand.
‘So, uh, guess you’re wondering why we’re out here?’
Kurt smiled. ‘The thought had crossed my mind. Although I’m glad you did, it’s lovely.’
‘I’d hoped you’d like it.’ A nervous smile in return, followed by throat clearing. ‘I - I really like you, I mean - as more than a friend. But I know you’re religious and if you don’t want to that’s okay - ’
Kurt watched, baffled and amused, before interrupting. ‘Duo, are you saying you want to . . . date me?’
Looking sheepish, Duo blushed deeply. ‘Um, yeah, I guess I am.’
Grinning, Kurt used his tail to lift Duo’s hand to his lips, kissing it. ‘I would like that.’
