Summary: She knows all about passion, and he taught her how it could burn her alive.
Author's Notes: Takes place in retrospective of certain events that happened within the relationship's canon, but you should be able to follow it regardless, as it's only a minor mention of a key event.

Nobody had to tell Brittany about passion. The two words anyone would use to describe her were 'loyal' and 'intense.'

Passion was what made her better. There are people with more skill, more experience, more sense, more toughness, but no one would ever have the fire she did and the strength inside that comes with it. Her passion kept her alive. When her back was to the wall, it was sheer will and commitment that has pushed her through.

Name any one of her supposed great triumphs over adversity and you'll find her passion at the heart of it. That time she held a gun to her head in an international game of chicken with a terrorist? She had the conviction that he wouldn't make her pull the trigger. The drive that even if he did, she knew she'd be going out having done everything she had to do. She had a belief it was right and she laid everything on the line in full view for it. No one could have asked her for more.

She knew a lot about passion in her life, in her work and her family and her hobbies, and then she met House and it got another meaning. Because she had never felt a passion with someone else that she did with him.

Blame it on it being her first relationship where her partner wasn't standing next to her in the line of fire. Or the fact that he was the first guy to really look at her like that. Or that he let her cut loose from her perfect image every once in a while. But the chemistry between them was undeniable. She wanted it, and soon she needed it.

It became something she needed to survive. Which everyone else knew. So when Lawrence Burton tortured him on tape, he knew she would break. She didn't disappoint, willing to sacrifice national security for the safety of the man she loved. A cardinal sin.

One she never would have committed if not for the passion she felt for him.

Passion went from the force that drove an empty life to the thing that made it real and then the weakness that made her lose everything.

She knows all too well about passion.
