When he saw her, Sarah was always something similar and different. She was every girl that had gone through the labyrinth, every unnamed girl for which the future had remained indifferent, the end result remained unvaried.
Yet she was a different girl because every girl had never gotten this far.
And then, with the shattering of the bubble, with the leap of faith, she was every girl and no girl. She was unique. When she said the words and broke the spell, he saw no girl but Sarah.
He saw Sarah and couldn't imagine how he could have missed her.
