“I’ve known you a long time,” Crowley says, leaning against the only empty bookshelf in the whole shop, “and you’ve never acted quite like this.”

“Like what?” Aziraphale demands, flipping the sign on the door to Closed.

Crowley unwinds the scarf from his neck, rolling it slowly and staring intently at the floor. He shrugs. “You’re flustered.”

“I don’t- I am not!”

“Angel.” Crowley looks up carefully.

Aziraphale knocks over several books on the counter. “This is all your fault,” he sputters.

“I have been on my best behaviour for the last year,” Crowley protests, bending down to help pick up the mess.

“Well, stop!”

Crowley slams the books down on the counter. Aziraphale winces. “You and I have put up with each other for millennia, Aziraphale. From Eden to the bloody Spanish Inquistion - so what’s so terrible now? What’s wrong with you?”

“You’re just - you’re always - oh, Hell,” Aziraphale says, and shoves Crowley against the wall.

“Wh-”

And then Aziraphale kisses him (because someone’s got to misbehave around here, after all).
