The sound of the key turning sounded so final, even though he knew she’d be back on Earth in three months. He waited, memorizing how elegant she looked in her dress blues, filing it along with the memory of how she looked earlier when he’d slid into her waiting body, her eyes filled with love.
He caught her hand as she opened the car door. “You know I understand.”
She smiled. “I know.”
