That's it! I can't take it anymore!
Election years absolutely suck. Suddenly, we're all surrounded by people who virulently hate anyone who thinks differently from them and willfully delude themselves into blindly following the candidate of their chosen party. Truth and civility both unceremoniously vanish and are replaced by myth and hostility.
Obama and McCain both lie and dodge. If either of them really wanted to change the way this country is run, then they'd be trying to change the way political campaigns are run. But no; they both tow the line and double-talk and do what they're "supposed" to do because the only thing either of them truly cares about is winning. The one true original in this whole farce is Sarah Palin; too bad she's slightly batshit.
I am so sick of people who read and watch and pay attention to only what reinforces their own views. I am so sick of people who think everyone on the opposite party is evil or a moron. I am so sick of people who think loving America means denigrating those who have different political views and telling them to get out of the country. And I am so sick of people who keep the wool over their own eyes while blithely deriding others for being blind.
Ya wanna have a political conversation? Okay, fine, let's have one -- but let's have one where we respect one another, and listen to one another, and consider both sides, and search for the truth rather than for what makes us feel warm and fuzzy. Let's be honest with ourselves and learn from each other and celebrate the fact that we're different. This country will never truly be what we want it to unless we start doing that.
