book of doom, school in brief, the approach of the awesome that will be Mabon '05

So it's a new semester, and I'm taking this class. Some people like to call it Urban Sociology. We haven't really gotten into the sociology part yet; rather, the past two weeks have been spent studying the history of downtown. Makes sense, right? Surely! But, unfortunately, along with this historical perusal of the central business district area thing comes a book. A book named (brace yourself)..."Downtown."

NO GODS, NO!

Yes, children. Yes. It is an awful book of repetitiveness and doom. It somewhat makes me want to gouge my eyes out, to tell you the truth. It causes delusion; my notes have devolved into rambling nonsense...
-BUT NO! this is not good enough, because can't accomodate everyone! So answer is: encourage use of mass transit
-except some people thought this POV was wrong! OMG!!!
-OMG publically-funded and maintained garages! Is this Un-American socialist pinko commie crap or a really good idea? STAY TUNED FOR MORE REPETITION OF SHIT!
-AND NOW WE'RE BACK TO MASS, RAPID TRANSIT! for the love of god kill me
-fucking subways again! I hate subways forever. Thank you, Fogelson
-in most places no one wanted them. THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME THIS AGAIN. WAS 70 PAGES NOT ENOUGH?!
-OMG how to fund things? everything is so expensive, woe!
-and more opposition! how unexpected! how odd that 100% of the populace can never completely agree on things! ...and I think my brain is dying.

But other than that I like the class. The material is interesting despite the fact that this book is written fairly poorly (the author just does not have any conception of how to get to the point. He rambles and rambles and repeats himself often, which is really not the way to go, yo).

All of my classes seem to be shaping up nicely. Okay, well, my Social Theory professor seems a little...I don't know, not very good at relating information. But that matters not, for theory rocks my socks! Durkheim makes me fill with happy! Except I disagree with him about religion! Yay!

In other news, Mabon approaches, and it's looking to be quite awesome. I'm a little nervous, I'll admit, despite the fact that this will be the third ritual I've had a large hand in planning. Thing is, never before has it actually been my de facto job to plan before; I stepped up in the past because no one else seemed to want to. So, er, I think the expectations are a little higher. It's also a bit more elaborate than the other two I've worked on, what with it including a skit and an organizational structure that sorta flies in the face of what I've gotten used to. It's...a bit experimental, I think, in some ways. But it's cool, and Sharon and Sarah are wonderful to plan with and have spectacular ideas that make me grovel before them. It's gonna be good, man. Real good. Don't think it'll surpass the awesome of Samhain two years ago (can ANYTHING surpass that EVER?! Because I don't think it can), but it'll definitely be one for the books, granted all goes according to plan.

And yeah, we're actually gonna honor Mabon. And we're actually gonna ritualize the giving of thanks, because, dude, it's pretty much Thanksgiving. Gotta pay more than lip service to that, yo.
