Family Vacation Begins

The Trip Begins

Today was the first day of my Family Vacation 2005. Almost every summer (that is, every summer except last year) my family has taken a vacation since I was 6 or 7. I have always enjoyed them, and still do so far. They usually consist of a 2 week long road trip to who-knows-where and back, having hit key places like Niagra Falls, the Everglades, Mammoth Cave, Devil's Tower, and Mt. Rushmore (of course, not all on the same trip). Sometimes we go somewhere and just stay and relax, but it's usually only one week if we do that. We've been to White Lake and a couple of other cabin-style resorts, and one Carribbean Cruise.

Fun stuff, seriously.

This year we are going to Atlanta and Nasheville. Then, about a week from now, Mom and Mary are going to contine on up to Kentucky for a family reunion while the rest of us (Dad, Beth, Faith, and myself) head back home.

I don't mind missing the reunion that much because my mom has LOTS of family. Like 52 first-cousins. I never know anyone there, and everyone says, "Oh, look, doesn't he look just like so-and-so?" Plus, I have to get back to work anyways.

But until then, I am going to really enjoy myself. We're taking two cars--Mary, Faith, Beth and I are in my car while Mom and Dad are in Mom's. I haven't driven yet, but I suspect I will be before the trip is over. Mostly I read and listened to music on the way up. I had really hoped Mary and I could be social and have fun in the car, but with Faith there, it wasn't quite the same. Not in a bad way, just different.

For some reason the six-and-a-half hour trip turned into eight hours. Don't ask why, I don't know.

So far my only complaint is the motel. We will be staying here for 3 nights and it really royally sucks. It's the cheapest motel in all of Georgia, my dad made sure of that. We don't have any towel racks or closet. Nowhere whatsoever to hang anything. My mom's room got both, but we have neither. We do have one of the microwave-fridge combos and they don't. I guess the management felt bad and wanted to give us SOMETHING. So I packed all my clothes in one of those hanging bags with clothes hangers, and now I have nowhere to hang them. And our room is 10 feet away from the garbage dumpster of the motel, and 15 feet away from the garbage dumpster of the KFC just outside. Its gonna be a looong 3 nights.

So that's it. Pretty uneventful so far. I'll try to keep ya posted.
