if you don't want to know about RENT the movie, STOP READING

I don't know how to do a cut, so hopefully that will work ;)

Ok... I still need time to process, so I'm not going to review in depth yet. I think Ava said it best when she said that it was like visiting an old friend. That's exactly how I felt. I had flashes all during the show of times that we have all been together at the show -- so surreal. And I loved, loved, loved seeing those amazing Broadway originals. And thank you, Bernard Telsey, because Tracie and Rosario were fantastic.

I'm seeing it again with my roommate, Jordan, and my brothers tomorrow, but today I went with the best friend and roommate, Kellie's, boyfriend. Jeff and I saw the show together in NY, but Greg has never seen it. So that was fun for me -- one newbie and one who knew my love of RENT better than almost anyone (except my DBs and my girls in San Jose).

The things I liked were too many to list (YAY! I'm so glad it was like that) but some things that I didn't enjoy...

--There was no transformation of Benny. The way they cut parts of the 2nd Act, a person who had never seen the show wouldn't know that Benny, too, changes because of Angel. Upsetting for me.

--Adam on the mountain in "What You Own." Puuuuuleeze. Enough said.

--When Anthony is saying "Alexi, Mark, call me a hypocrite...," could he not have been on a PHONE?!

--One of the most heartwrenching things about "I'll Cover You (reprise)" on stage is that the cast is again lined up, with an open space left for Angel. While the movie funeral was touching, it could never touch me the same way.

--You don't cut Halloween. That is our only true look into Mark, and it was cut. I don't understand. And I missed the end of Goodbye Love ... that transition was wacky without it.
