soy and shoes

We (and by "we," I mean "I") have been trying to expand our dinner horizons a bit. I made a list of all the dinners my husband will eat uncomplaining, and alone came up with six. He managed to add to it a bit (though adding "burritos" to a list that already had "tacos" and "fajitas" was less helpful than he thought), but it was a start. So when we went to the grocery store the other day, we grabbed our favorite meatless taco filling and decided to try the product next to it, meatless BBQ sandwich filling. The hubby actually liked it. Really with these products, the major factor is the flavor (sauce, spice combo, etc.) with some vegetable protein for bulk. The taco filling is good. The BBQ stuff.... I was not a fan. It was oddly textured with a few weird chunks (like 3 in the whole package) and too mushy for me. But I still like barbecue sauce! Next time I will just crumble up some tempeh with some sauce instead.

My friend, Angie, and I went on a Grand Adventure yesterday! We hit up IKEA and bought a wall rail and caddy for my kitchen, then picked up some bulk food storage containers, too. Angie needed a new dish rack.

Next, we headed across the street to the Mall of America for some retail therapy. We each found some treasures at H&M before going on a Shoe Quest. Angie needs shoes for the wedding we're in this September (I got mine online, but they only had size 11!) and I need some good closed-toe walking shoes for Italy. I tend to wear out shoes that I really like, and since I'm only bringing one pair of sandals and one pair of "real" shoes, I had better have good ones! Plus, our tour includes some mountains, so I want something with support and a decent sole, but I still want it to be cute. Oh, and in my size. Not too hard, right? Riiiiiight.

So after some disappointing service at Nordstrom (!), I resigned myself to ordering some online. I had tried on the brand I was interested in and found that the normal slip-on style was a bit wide, so I found one with a band over the top that came in black in an 11, and ordered these up. Trying to search all over town for something similar to that would just take so much time, and if I didn't find anything, it would be too late. These should arrive on Wednesday, giving me three days of emergency shopping if needed. Cross your fingers!
