Having Jacob in my life now has really got me wanting to write more, I feel like I should chronicle our journey. But where to begin...
In the month before he came, I started to get very nervous. Every day I would pass through his room, which had always just been just a room. Then one day, I realized there was going to be someone in that room. That may seem like an obvious conclusion to you, but to me, it was mind blowing. What would this room bring? There's an empty crib. Soon, it will be occupied. There are clothes in the dresser, soon to have a little life inside them. There are diapers in the closet, soon to be changed. Little things to you, but an enormous responsibility to me. I would get scared and sit quietly on the couch, staring into his room, contemplating this life that would soon be here.
In the week before Jacob arrived, I started having very real dreams of labor. I was in my hospital room looking around nervously. There were the normal people there, mom, Justin, Laura chatting it up as nurses came in and out. Then it got quiet. I was inside myself and all I could hear was my heartbeat. I would look to my left and Justin was holding my hand, I would look to my right and Laura was holding the other. "One, two, three..." beating of my heart all I can hear, looking around it's all blurry. "Four, five, six..." again, the beating of my heart is the only sound. I would always wake up right then, extremely anxious.
May 10, I wake up to the normal contractions, which I had been having for at least a month and a half, but they felt harder.
Ooop, he's awake... well, I'd love to finish this all poetically, but long story short, 29 hours of labor and a c-section later, Jacob made his arrival. May 11, 2010. 12:36pm. Welcome!
