I made sure to wake up at a decent time this morning, so as not to slip too far off schedule. I figured 8:00 would suffice. Later than I usually get up on a weekday, but not so late that half the day is gone by the time I get out of bed.
First thing this morning, I signed the paperwork I have to return to Mary. One of the forms required a witness' signature, so I asked my mom to perform that duty before she left for work.
I drank a cup of coffee while reading yesterday's paper for jobs. I found one, maybe two that sounded remotely interesting. Too bad I'm not an engineer or a teacher, they have lots of jobs open. Interestingly enough, I found a want ad for V-, the first company I worked for - it was an engineering job, so it wasn't anything I could do... but interesting to see they are hiring, anyway (not like I'd go back, though).
I then got on the phone to sign up for my unemployment benefits. Exactly 37 minutes later (gotta love the call timer on the phone) I was done. When I called in, the system estimated I'd be waiting approximately 22 minutes to get a representative... and they weren't kidding! But I'm all set now. My first check will be coming in about 3 weeks. And now the weekly call-in begins, with the yes/no questions: Did I look for a job this week? Am I working? Blah blah blabbity blah.
After hanging up the phone, I worked on my resume for a while. I also got a call from Marilyn, one of my other co-workers, wondering what had happened on Friday.
Note that I haven't taken a shower yet. I'm getting to that... promise! Don't worry, I don't smell or anything!
After I take my shower (which will be after I finish typing this), I'm going to eat lunch and then go run my many errands. First and foremost, I'm going back to R- (the old office) to drop off the paperwork with Mary. Marilyn asked me if I could drop by her desk, but I would have to pass by a lot of other people's desk while doing so and it would probably take all day... so I don't know if I'll do that.
After that I have to go to the bank to deposit my last paycheck (handed to me on Friday) and some rebate checks I got in the mail last week. Then I'll swing by Staples and pick up an ink cartridge for my mom. Then I'll probably go to Dress Barn because I still have a gift card for there that I got at Christmas... shopping therapy is very healing, you know, and it's even better when you are spending someone else's money! :) And finally, on my way home, I'll stop at DeMoulas (I don't care if it's been called Market Basket for like fifteen years now... it'll always be DeMoulas to me!!) and pick up the stuff to make some of my famous bean-free chili, which I will be crock-potting for dinner tomorrow. (Is crock-potting a word? If not, it is now!)
(ETA: Here is what I really did. After dropping off the paperwork, I got Mom's ink cartridge, went to the credit union to cash in the coins from my piggy bank, went to Dress Barn only to find out the store was GONE and nothing was there, got gas for the car, took the car through the car wash, went to Bank of America to deposit aforementioned checks, and finally went to "DeMoulas" to get meat, peppers, onions, and tomato sauce for chili. Phew. What an afternoon!)
Who says that you get to relax when you aren't working? :)
