The entry in which "Big Red" gets a workout

OK, I used the icon with my old car in it, only because I have not yet created one with my new car. But the sentiment still applies. I spent a helluva lot of time in the car yesterday, although it was all in good fun. *takes deep breath* OK, here goes nothing...

First, I drove from Boxborough to my parents' house in Wilmington, where I picked up my mom, and continued to Allston, where we had an appointment to meet a potential florist for the wedding. As we were leaving, sunniski called about car troubles, so since we just happened to be in the area, I drove to her place to pick her up and then brought her to her job at Wheelock College. Mom and I then used the GPS device (borrowed from Dad for the day) to get the heck out of Boston. After a quick lunch and Starbucks break in the Alewife area, we scooted down Route 2 out to Fitchburg, where we went to check out the venue that we currently have booked for the wedding. (I'm concerned that it's not big enough for the number of people we're expecting, and after yesterday's trip I am certain it's too small. Also, the path leading up to the area we'd be doing the ceremony in is a bit rocky and does not have handrails, so I'm afraid my grandfather and all those ladies in their dress shoes would have trouble getting down there.) After that, we went to a park in Boxborough that I think has better potential as a ceremony venue. We then went to my apartment for a bit to kill time, before heading out on the road again. We went back to Brighton to pick up my sister again, and headed down to Stoughton for some shopping. First we went to the Christmas Tree Shop, where we got some really cute teacups that will be the centerpieces at the wedding shower (yep, it is SO not a surprise - Sunday, August 19, mark your calendars ladies!), and checked out Michael's for some ribbon (unsuccessfully - we laughed at the sign on the door that said something like "come back soon to be inspired again"). Then the real reason we went to Stoughton - IKEA! After a yummy dinner of Swedish meatballs, mac 'n' cheese and three different desserts (one for each of us!), we went downstairs and picked up some teacups that will become shower favors, among other things. I spent a whole $17 and change on some odds-and-ends, and since I used my debit card, I got a coupon for $0.18 off a future purchase - wahoo! I then brought my sister back to Brighton, brought my mom back to Wilmington, and brought myself back to Boxborough.

Phew! Even writing that all out makes me tired. It's amazing I don't have a sore driving foot or something. Anyway, just for the fun of it, this morning I went on to Google Maps to find out just how much I drove yesterday (I reset the trip meter at one point because I filled up the gas tank). Of course, the maps don't show the exact path I drove (why would I take the Pike to Allston?), but I figure it's close enough. And the results are actually kind of ridiculous:

Yep, that says 250 miles, and six and a half hours in the car. You know, that actually sounds just about right. The worst part is that we didn't really go all that far for so much mileage and time. It was just a tour of the Greater Boston area. :)
