Labor Day is good, because it means that I do not have to labor! But of course it does mean the unofficial end of summer, which is kind of sad. It seems like summer just started.
I am at the tail end of an extra-super-long weekend. I took Thursday and Friday off from work as PTO time. Yep, that's a 5-day weekend! I'm loving it! I've actually been pretty busy. Thursday I met
sunniski at her office for lunch. Friday, Karen and I had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory (YUMMERIFIC) and then caught a matinee of the movie "Red Eye" (nothing to write home about, but not a waste of money, either). Saturday, I met Janet at the park and we played with Jordana there for a while, then we went for a Dunkin's Run. I also bought a new desk at Wal-Mart and spent most of the evening assembling it... man I love putting together modular furniture (hence I am in love with IKEA). Yesterday was
midnightcoder and
polgara_3000's long awaited graduation party. Brian just called me and reported that a strange thing happened: They ended up with more beer than they started with (nobody was drinking it, and in fact someone brought a whole case with them). I told him he could have invited my family over to take care of that problem, heh heh. Last night turned into an impromptu game night with the addition of
drakin769 and DJ - we played Munchkin for almost two hours straight. Today Brian and I will be going out shopping so he can spend his well-earned graduation money.
Some other random updates:
A large tree limb (probably about 3-4 inches wide at its thickest point, and maybe 20 feet long) fell off a tree in the back yard the other night. Miraculously, it fell parallel to the house and the deck, and did not damage anything - even the glass gazing ball on the deck railing was unscathed.
Gas prices are friggin' ridiculous... but I'm sure you already knew that.
The tomatoes are doing alright. The Beefmaster plant has not yet yielded any ripened fruit but it has maybe 4 or 5 fruit that are chugging along. The Heinz actually looks really sickly (on the short side, pale color, not many leaves) but it's got lots of fruit. We've already picked 4 or 5 ripened tomatoes off of that one, and another one looks like it'll be ripe in a couple of days; also, there are probably 8 or 9 little baby tomatolets on there. It seems like that plant is devoting all its energies to fruiting.
I still don't have Lappie-Top back yet. Every time I call CompUSA I get a different story. (First I was told it went to HP and hadn't come back yet. Then I was told that it had gone to HP and had come back unrepaired, so the service department on site at the CompUSA store was going to fix it. Then I was told it had to go back to HP again, possibly for a backordered part. Then I was told it had never gone to HP at all. I have no clue what really happened...) But what IS clear is that they have screwed up and they know it. The service manager told me personally that they're expediting this one (at last!) to get it operational as soon as possible. At this point it's been over a month since the computer died and I brought it in for repair. I've told the folks at CompUSA in a polite way that I am very disappointed it's taken so long. I was originally quoted 2-3 weeks.
