It's laser-riffic!

Laser 80s last night was, like, totally awesome, dude. ;)

I had never been to a laser show at the Museum of Science before, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. Basically what happens is that the laser projector in the Planetarium projects various laser patterns and pictures onto the dome. Sometimes it's swirling, kaliedoscope-esque patterns, sometimes it's a drawing of a person or an object. Of course, since this is being drawn with laser lines, none of the pictures were really detailed or anything, but they were still really amazing.

My personal favorites were "Message In A Bottle" (it showed a "castaway" on an island who throws a bottle into the sea, and eventually a diver finds it at the bottom of the ocean), "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" (showed various nature scenes like fish swimming upstream, polar bears feeding, etc. and also had some "flying" sequences through valleys and mountains) and "She Blinded Me With Science" (a mad scientist and his robot assistants attempt to build a pretty lady-friend but it ends up being this really ugly, huge lady-robot which is, of course, in love with the scientist).

My only "complaint" is that the music was almost entirely the new-wave early 80s music I'm not really familiar with (because I was too young at the time that that sort of music was popular)... I wish they had taken some songs from a broader range of the 80s and shown its true diversity (or at least as diverse as you can get for an era/genre that relies so heavily on synthesizers, hee hee).

But they did show a laser Max Headroom at the very end, though, so I gotta give them props for that. :)

After the show we (that's me, Brian, Alicia, Aharon, and Ben) went to the California Pizza Kitchen for dinner. I had never been there before, either, and it was a real treat. I had their Thai chicken pizza... yummmmmmm. I think next time I might try the BLT pizza though (which Alicia had - it's covered in lettuce!). And of course, we had to stop at the Cheesecake Factory on the way home and grab some cheesecake to go. I have a slice of Toblerone Swiss Almond cheesecake just sitting in the fridge downstairs, awaiting consumption. Yummmmmm.... :)
