The divide between men and women bothers me in all genres. Because for some reason it seems that--with the exception of romance, which is the only female-dominated genre afaik--while women may outsell the men, and while women may get great reviews, women still aren't given the respect that men are within the genre. I'm sure writing for comics you saw the same thing? I don't like automatically being consigned to the "hack" corner because I don't have a penis, and I don't think I deserve it and I don't think other women deserve it either.
Personally I love hardboiled gritty mysteries and dislike cozies. :-) And yes, the male and female brains certainly are different, but I think both sexes can enjoy good writing and a good story. Lots of women read male writers; why not the other way around?
