So, for anyone that knows me on here, you may know I want to be creative. I have talked about making my own RPG and although I haven't talked about it as much, am also wanting to write a novel. The problem comes into time and motivation. I really am trying to figure out how keep motivated on a project for a long period of time.
There are many factors as to why this is hard.
1. I am very easily distracted, and probably a bit ADD.
2. I am older now, so the energy level is not what it used to be.
3. I have a girlfriend that takes up a lot of my free time.
I am honest enough with myself to admit that most of that is an excuse, but not all of it. Here is why.
1. I have dealt with my ADD for most of my life and can overcome it.
2. I am still more energetic than most, and just need to get healthier.
3. She is very supportive of me and would probably even help in any way she could. She is a writer herself, and understands.
The book thing is on my own and I am just going to work on it when I can. The game is with a few friends of mine (Henry and Chris). Now Chris has a lot more going on than we do, so I never really know how much he is able to help. Even if he never did another thing, he is the one that got this started and has done an amazing job with what he brough to the project. Henry is someone that is into this as much as I am, but we tend to burn ourselves out...it is something we are about to get toghether and discuss.
Any tips would be helfpful for any of this. :)
So the bottom line is this. I am looking for a job right now and am trying to get these projects going. I feel very good about what we have done thus far on the game, and can only hope we can get going again soon. The book will just have to be done on the side and hopefully will take off as well.
